...One
might read David's story and wonder what God saw in him. The fellow
fell as often as he stood. He stared down Goliath, yet ogled at
Bathsheeba; defied God-mockers in the valley, yet joined them in the
wilderness. He could lead armies but couldn't manage a family. Raging
David. Weeping David. Bloodthirsy. God-hungry. Eight wives. One God.
A
man after God's own heart? That God saw him as such gives hope to us
all. David's life has little to offer the unstained saint. The rest of
us find it reassuring. We ride the same rollercoaster. We need David's
story...
Giants. We must face them. Yet we need not face them
alone. Focus first, and most, on God. The times David did, giants fell.
The days he didn't, David did. Test this theory with an open Bible.
Read 1 Samuel 17 and list the observations David made regarding
Goliath. I find only two. ...But he gives much thought to God. Read David's words again, this time underlining his references to the Lord.
...I
count nine references. God-thoughts outnumber Goliath-thoughts nine to
two. How does this ratio compare to yours? Do you ponder God's grace
four times as much as you ponder your guilt? Is your list of blessings
as long as your list of complaints? Are you four times as likely to
describe the stength of God as you are the demands of your day? No?
Then David is your man. Some note the absence of miracles in his story. No Red Sea openings, chariot flamings, or dead Lazaruses walking. No miracles. But there is one. David is one. A rough-edged walking wonder of God who neon-lights this truth: Focus on giants-you stumble. Focus on God-your giants tumble.
Lift your eyes, giant slayer. The God who made a miracle out of David stands ready to make one out of you.
(from Max Lucado's "Facing Your Giants")

| "Nothing will take away Nothing can keep at bay The promise and commitment made I won't walk away If it's hard, I'll carry it If it hurts, I'll bury it Let it come, let it go; I won't walk away
I believe every word That I said, and I heard No, I won't change my mind I won't walk away I believe every promise It will come, time regardless Beyond involved, I'm committed I won't walk away."

| He has been given the Name that is above every other name...the name of Jesus. And
of all the names He has ever been given, none speaks more love into my
heart than that beautiful, holy name.
And throughout time many lips have whispered, shouted, cried, and
cursed that Name. And for all those who have called on His Name in
spirit and in truth He has answered.
So with that knowledge I can't help but wonder...who am I? Who am I in
light of those who have gone before? In light of who He is? I'm less
than I can describe.
And yet, He calls me by His name! He knows all those who belong to Him, and I am one of those. His.
"Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this
inscription: The Lord knows those who are His." 2 Timothy 2:19
"I belong to You, Lord I belong to You You have called me by name And I belong to You I belong to You, Lord I belong to You Written down I find my name On a cross that's still blood-stained And forever all will know I belong to You"
it's confidence to know where you belong, but even more so to know to whom you belong.
